Christmas is a special time all over the world. There’s nothing quite like a Hawaiian Christmas where all the palm trees are adorned with beautiful Christmas lights to intense perfection. Everywhere in the city you’ll be overjoyed by the jolly blend of traditional Christmas music being plucked on the Ukulele interspersed with our favorite Elvis songs of all time. Nothing quite says Merry Christmas like Mele Kalikimaka! Check out some of the must-see-must-do Christmas activities in my hometown.
Honolulu Hale City Lights
Each year, Honolulu’s City Hall sets up an impressive display of Christmas lights and decorations. The month-long display includes a MASSIVE Christmas tree (a 50 foot Norfolk pine to be exact), a Shaka Santa and Tutu Mele, themed indoor trees inside and a whole corridor of wreaths! (Is a wreath just a lei on a circular wire?) The display runs until January 1st, so you have an extra few days to extend your Christmas cheer!
A Royal Christmas Experience
Spending a weekend at the Royal Hawaiian Resort on Waikiki is probably the best staycation anyone could ever experience. The hotel is situated in the middle of world-renowned Waikiki Beach, is simply the most beautiful resort you could ever hope to stay at in your entire life, is surrounded by all sorts of fun activities such as Duke’s Waikiki, a myriad of dive clubs, beautiful restaurants and the most exquisite Honolulu experience you could ever want. Christmas at the Royal Hawaiian is also a sight for sore eyes! Is there anything better than dipping your toes in the pacific in the middle of December and then heading up to the Mai Tai bar for some cocktails? I think not.
What’s Christmas Without a Hula Show?
One of the most entertaining hula shows on the island is the Christmas Hula Show at the Ala Moana centerstage. Ala Moana Center is the largest shopping mall in Hawaii, the largest open-air chopping center in the world and seventh largest shopping mall in the United States. Every day the mall puts on an incredible hula show, and in December it transforms into a Christmas-themed hula show. Definitely check it out when doing your shopping!
